Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 3, 2026
Daily Log is a keyboard-first mental offloading tool that replaces your new tab page. We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about what data we collect, how we store it, and what we do (and don't do) with it.
What data we collect
Without signing in
If you use Daily Log without signing in, we collect no personal data
whatsoever. Everything stays on your device in chrome.storage.local.
When you sign in with Google
If you choose to sign in to enable cross-device sync, we receive and store:
- Your name, email address, and profile avatar from your Google account
User-created content
When signed in, your log entries are synced to our server. Each entry includes:
- Text content (whatever you type)
- Tags (derived from
@tagmentions in your content) - Timestamps (created and last updated)
- Todo status (whether a log is marked as a todo and its completion state)
- Pin status (whether a log is pinned)
How data is stored
Local storage
All data is stored locally on your device in chrome.storage.local. This is
the primary data store. The extension works fully offline with no server connection required.
Server sync (optional)
When you sign in, your logs are synced to our server hosted on Railway using a Postgres
database. Sync uses a last-write-wins strategy based on each entry's updatedAt timestamp.
Soft deletes propagate across devices — when you delete a log on one device, it is
marked as deleted and synced to all other devices.
Chrome permissions
Daily Log requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to persist your logs and settings locally in
chrome.storage.local - notifications — to deliver reminders you set on your logs
- alarms — to schedule reminders and periodic backup timers
We request only the permissions necessary for the extension to function. No permission is used for tracking or data collection.
What we don't do
- We do not use any third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising
- We do not sell, rent, or transfer your data to third parties
- We do not use your data for ad targeting or profiling
- We do not read or process the content of your logs for any purpose other than storing and syncing them
Optional feedback
If you tag a log with @log-feedback, the content of that log is sent to us
as feedback alongside basic browser and platform information (browser name, version,
operating system). This only happens when you explicitly use the @log-feedback tag.
No feedback is ever sent automatically.
Deleting your data
- Local data: uninstall the extension or clear Chrome storage
(
chrome.storage.local) to remove all local data - Synced data: signing out removes the sync connection, but your local data remains on your device. To delete server-side data, contact us at the email below.
- Full removal: uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. Contact us to request deletion of any server-side data.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
